The one-year Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship offers an outstanding experience that can be tailored to meet the fellows' educational goals."

Educational Program

Trainee responsibilities include patient management and teaching of residents. Fellows gain experience in a wide range of skills associated with regional anesthesiology utilizing state of the art ultrasound guided techniques to perform single shot and catheter blocks. Each fellow will personally perform and supervise residents in over 1000 blocks during the fellowship year, including upper and lower extremity catheters as well as paravertebral and truncal blocks. The fellows are intimately involved with the acute pain service to prepare them to be a perioperative physician. To enhance the academic mission, the fellows are encouraged to get involved with the Acute Pain Service which has multiple ongoing research opportunities. The fellows do not take call which maximizes their clinical and academic experience. In addition, fellows spend forty percent of their time as an attending, doing a mix of general operating room cases. This allows the fellow to maintain their clinical anesthesiology skills, as well as make supplemental income. Furthermore, each fellow receives $2500 in professional funds for conferences, books, and additional academic endeavors. This subspecialty fellowship prepares trainees to evaluate pertinent literature, develop and conduct original clinical or basic science research projects, and present such work at national and international academic meetings.
