Dr. Patrick N. Olomu earned his medical degree from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria in 1985. After completing a rotational internship and national service, he began anesthesiology training in 1988 in Benin-City, Nigeria, later continuing his education in Germany and the United Kingdom.


In 1995, Dr. Olomu moved to the United States, starting with a surgical internship at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama. He completed his anesthesiology residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago in 1999, followed by a one-year fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School.
He spent nearly eight years in private practice in San Antonio before joining UT Southwestern in September 2008, where he served as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management and worked as an attending pediatric anesthesiologist at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.


Currently, Dr. Olomu serves at the Division Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia, Professor of Anesthesiology, and Interim Vice-Chair of Research at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. 


Dr. Olomu holds board certification and recertification from the American Board of Anesthesiology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in the UK. He also earned diplomas in anesthesiology from both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

His professional interests include anesthesia for high-risk neonatal and pediatric surgeries, endocrine surgery, advanced pediatric airway management, and global health education. He has co-authored A Glossary of Medical Physiology and published research on pediatric airway management and the effects of anesthesia on brain development.
