Dr. Jeffrey A. Green, MD MSHA FASA is the Boyan-Keenan Endowed Professor of Anesthesia Safety at VCUHealth. He currently serves as the Assistant Medical Director for Performance Improvement for VCUHealth. Dr. Green is double board certified in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE). He recently graduated with a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the VCU Department of Health Administration.

 

Dr. Green is nationally recognized for his expertise and research in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, as well as quality improvement and patient safety. He has received numerous grants for his research work and was recently the principal investigator for a Department of Defense supported clinical trial. He serves on many committees at the local, regional and national level, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Board of Directors and as a Full Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is an editorial board member for the American Society of Anesthesiologists Patient Safety Program. He is a past-president of the Virginia Society of Anesthesiologists and leads the Virginia delegation to the American Society of Anesthesiologist’s House of Delegates. He serves as Chair of the MCVP Self-insurance/Policy Committee as well as Chair of the VCUHS Medical Staff Quality Oversight Committee. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the VCUHealth captive insurance company, Aries Insurance Services, Inc.

In Dr. Green’s clinical practice, he performs procedures in all areas and specialties of anesthesiology. He is formerly Department Vice Chairman and Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology as well former fellowship program director. He enjoys teaching anesthesiology and patient safety to fellows, residents and students. Dr. Green has received the John R. Jones Faculty of the Year teaching award and is the recipient of the ASA/SEA Distinguished Educator in Anesthesiology Award. He has been recognized as a Top Doctor, Best Doctor in America and Best Bedside Manner. He is currently a fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

After obtaining his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, Dr. Green completed medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at Allegheny General Hospital then completed anesthesiology residency and fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. He currently lives in Glen Allen, VA (Hanover County) with his wife Kathy and two children, Jordan (20) and Max (18), where they are involved in community and school activities.
